kronsys Inc. is a medium sized company that deals with software and application developments, and its headquarters are in Raleigh, North Carolina (Kronsys Inc., 2016). The company has been showing tremendous growth due to the way it provides products and services and products to its clients across the globe. The company works with leading corporate to help them shape the customer impact in a unique way that its business rivals do not leverage. They do their best to help the employees to grow and develop to their potential by ensuring there is a great rapport of trust, caring for them and motivating them as appropriately as possible. The measurement of the companys success is due to the plethora of clients that come from diverse cultures and nations across the globe. They have the tenet that the customer is the Kingpin on whom they need to invest significant effort and increase their loyalty to the company brands (Kronsys Inc., 2016).

At Kronsys Inc, I will be working as SQL developer intern. SQL is a computer language designed for databases and is useful retrieving and managing data in relational databases. SQL is useful in manipulating data in SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, DB2, Sybase and other database systems (Blaha & Michael, 2001). The development of application using this language results in applications that are dynamic and can work on any platform. The applications offer the power as well as the flexibility of database processing, for instance, one can use dynamic SQL, DML, and cursors. (Blaha & Michael, 2001). There is an improved SQL known as PL/SQL that is useful in the development of web applications that are compatible with all platforms and are dynamic. Thus, it will be essential to develop applications that have market orientation and the ones that can overcome the weaknesses of those available when I will do my internship.

I will be working with the application developers in the company that is part of the research and innovation department. They are responsible for carrying out research on behalf of the company and determining the technological problems in the market and the way forward in finding practical solutions to those problems. They work in conjunction with the IT departments and the marketing department so as to acquire the necessary help as how to design those applications to meet the needs of these departments. They use a uniform method of project development known as agile. The mission of the research and innovation department is to ensure the development of market-oriented applications using cutting-edge technology to satisfy client needs. The way that mission aligns with the corporate mission is that it entails putting the best technology and clients ahead of any innovation that is the companys mission.

One of the problems that are prevalent in the company is a lack of coordination among information technology department, the business department and the research and innovation departments. That is a problem that leads to the development of applications that many times fail to pass the acceptance test due to objections from the other departments. They do not understand the objectives of each other, thus leading to confusion and lack of proper coordination. My working in the company as an intern will result in ensuring proper cooperation among all the company departments and will result in the tremendous growth of the company. It will reduce conflicts and lead to a harmonious working among all the departments.

Methodology

The Action Research methodology employs a systematic way of conducting an investigation meant for finding a concrete solution to a practical problem in a given context (Bogdan & Biklen, 1992). It requires that all the stakeholders affected by the issue participate fully in carrying out the investigation because each ones input is indispensable to the finding of a practical solution that will solve the issue completely (Carson & Sumara, 1997). Action Research methodology uses a continuous process of action refining that is helpful in improving the practice of the people in the given problem context and the organization at large. There is an emphasis on the reflective critique whereby all the participants in the research process have to participative actively and they all have equal say ion the decisions arrived at by the team. The reason as to why the participants have to be active in the research process is because the research outcomes will impact all of them (Winter, 1989).

another emphasis of Action Research methodology is the iterative process that entails the stages of planning, action, and the evaluation of the action according to McTaggart (1996). Reflection takes place in all stages right from the planning stage where the researchers have to reflect on the issue at hand and then decide the path they should take to find a lasting solution. In the last stage, reflection takes place or the purpose of finding out those things that went as planned and those that did not go as planned after which the team refines its actions and the cycle continues until they find a perfect solution (Stringer, 2007). The iterative nature of Action Research makes to be different from other types of research inquiry.

The History of Action Research

The founder of Action Research methodology is Kurt Lewin because many researchers claim he is the fruits person to author documents on Action Research. He wrote a paper in the year 1946 entitled `Action Reproach and Minority Problems and therein he used the spiral process of investigation that he called Action Research. He claimed that any research taking place only to produce books is not meaningful (Lewin, 1946). In the mid-1960s, there was a decline of Action Research that was already becoming popular and the cause of that declined was the radical political activism (Stringer, 2007). A disagreement on the approach of Action Research, but in spite of all those disagreements, the methodology again picked up in the late 1970s, and it became a tradition of practice in many disciplines (Stringer, 2007). Whitelaw and colleagues (2003) were the first to apply Action Research in the area of education so as to encourage the practitioners in this field to achieve their social reconstruction through curriculum development. Anthropology did not lag behind because Sol Tax also introduced this methodology while he was carrying out research on cultural practices.

Relevance to my Internship

I will be in the requirement to make a positive impact on the research and innovation department in which I will be working, and Action Research will be the best methodology to leverage. The methodology will enable me to coordinate the efforts of al the departmental heads and the team of experts towards the common goal of meeting the corporate goals and objectives. It also helps me to learn more and have good experience in SQL development. It will also help me acquire experience and skills relevant to project management as I will be participating in developing vital projects in the company.
