Search anywhere, look anywhere, and one may observe that there are literally well over a thousand skincare brands on the market currently. With so many choices, choosing the right skincare products may be a little overwhelming. I am going to help you to filter the list by using a basic filter of what may be critical in choosing skincare products. I can eliminate nearly all of the brands with checking that the items are from a brand that is; independently owned, are free of toxins, and are cruelty-free. These are important values that we all share and we all support from a brand.

Independently-owned brands are brands that have not taken any outside money in exchange for a percentage of ownership of the company. These companys are usually refered to as Indie brands. There are numerous Indie brands around the country that exist on a small basis due to their smaller size. Plus there are a few Indie brands that are forcing the movement and have scaled up into a national existence. There are also one or two Indie brands that are chasing the goal of being globally traded. One such brand in the Indie market is Russell Organics. They are expanding across all beauty channels from mass beauty to prestige. Russell Organics is also internationally traded, with a publicly stated goal of being the only globally traded Indie brand. If selecting an Indie brand be cautious of not disclosed external investors. We have researched this, and almost all of the larger so-called Indie brands have received external investors.

The following criteria for choosing a good skincare product is it being toxin free. What does this truly mean? There are thousands of synthetic ingredients, botanical ingredients, waxes, and extracts used to formulate products. Several of these ingredients may be synthetic toxins that have been proven to be toxic to human beings and to the environment. Russell Organics is leading the Clean Beauty movement by never using toxic ingredients and by entirely listing every ingredient in every product. Check for yourself. Check the products. Do you see ingredients listed as fragrance? Did you realize that fragrance may have in excess of 900 chemicals and you would never know which ones? Talk about a scary scenario. Have you ever step into a room and smell a perfume and at once have itcy eyes and start to sneeze? Those are the toxins that can also be lurking in your skincare products. A wonderful resource to investigate on ingredients is Environmental Working Group which has created a large database of ingredients and highlighted their level of toxicity.

The final filter is the company being cruelty free. What does cruelty-free really mean? There is a lot of confusion regarding the phrase. Let’s start by identifying that to be cruelty-free, the brand must be a vegan product. That requires no animal derived ingredients such as dairy, honey, beeswax are never used in any product. That eliminates at least 80 percent of the brands in the market. The other issue for being cruelty free is having never tested products on animals. Every one of the global mass skin care brands have tested on animals. This lust for profits at the expense of harming animals is inexcusable and shouldn’t be supported by using their products.

In closing, these basic key filters will help you to narrow down the list of selections to those brands that are worthy of your support. From there it will be a simple option of selecting the proper skincare product for your natural skin care type.
