El artículo que corre en estas páginas tiene el propósito de alcanzar los principales aportes de Eugenio María de Hostos (1839-1903) acerca de la integración de América Latina, uno de los principales problemas e imperativos de nuestro tiempo en esta parte del mundo. Sin embargo, la formación de bloques de países también es un hecho que ocurre en todo el planeta. Se trata de una de las grandes tendencias de la política y economía contemporáneas.

En la porción del mundo que habitamos, este fenómeno fue anunciado por diversos pensadores. Y ahora se convierte en realidad. Entre tales precursores figura Eugenio María de Hostos, preclaro intelectual puertorriqueño, que vio a la integración latinoamericana como un proceso gradual o por etapas, en los aspectos político, económico, educativo y cultural. Nuestro personaje recibió influencia del pensamiento europeo, a través de la corriente filosófica del positivismo, pero sin someterse a todos sus postulados. No fue extranjerizante. Su acción y su pensamiento tuvieron el sello de la autonomía intelectual de América Latina. De allí su gran preocupación por la educación en todos los países latinoamericanos que recorrió. Con su pensamiento latinoamericanista, Hostos contribuyó a abrir el camino de diversos organismos regionales y sub regionales de nuestros días.

El presente texto es el resultado de una investigación de carácter cualitativo y de reflexión en torno a las ideas del mencionado personaje, respecto a la aspiración integracionista de América Latina. Se ha utilizado la bibliografía del propio autor objeto de estudio, así como las fuentes de diversos intelectuales que se ocupan de esta temática.

Abstract

The article that is presented on these pages is intended to reach the main contributions of Eugenio Maria de Hostos (1839-1903) about the integration of Latin America, one of the major issues and imperatives of our time in this part of the world. However, the formation of blocs of countries it is also a fact that happens all over the planet. It is one of the

major trends in contemporary politics and the economy.

In the portion of the world that we inhabit, this phenomenon was announced by various thinkers. And now becomes reality. Between such precursors figure Eugenio Maria de Hostos, lucid intellectual Puerto Rican, which saw to the Latin American integration as a gradual process or by stages, in the political, economic, educational and cultural aspects.

Our thinker received the influence of European thought, through the philosophical current of positivism, but without being subjected to all its tenets. It was not unpatriotic. His action and thought had the stamp of the intellectual autonomy of Latin America.

Then his great concern for the education in all the Latin American countries he visited.

De Hostos helped to open the path of various regional institutions and sub-regional of our days with his Latin American thought.

This text is the result of a qualitative nature and reflection around the ideas of the above-mentioned thinker, about the integrationist aspiration of Latin America. It has been used the bibliography of the author's own object of study, as well as the sources of various intellectuals to deal with this issue.
